Selmer, Super Balanced Action, Alto Saxophone
The Selmer Super Balanced Action saxophone was manufactured by Selmer from 1946 through 1954. It superseded the Balanced Action which introduced a revolutionary new layout for the key table operating the G♯ and low C♯, B, and B♭ keys. The layout solved long-standing deficiencies in those mechanisms and all modern saxophones have left hand key tables derived from this arrangement.
This sax is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct and was previously owned by a German band leader, it is a professional instrument of the highest quality and he played it up until ca. 2010. This Alto has been much used. The keywork is sound and the pads are in good condition, a mixture of new and older tan leather. It has been recently serviced and all the corks, felts and springs are also in good condition. This instrument has original lacquer in good condition for its age, it is about 80%, there is wear on most pad cups and also to the body and key barrels. The body is in good condition, no dents and only minor wear & tear scratches. The S/N is 46934, which dates to 1951. The case is not original to the instrument, but is in fair used condition, with minor exterior scuffs and interior stains.
