Conn, Pan-Am, B Flat Clarinet
A very fine condition Conn Pan -American Clarinet in Cocobolo wood which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. This instrument was an ingenious solution by Conn to the scarcity of Grenadilla wood during, and just after, the Second World War. A similar wood was used in the manufacture of WWII Bomber Propellers', hence the nick name; "Propeller wood clarinet". This is a wide bore clarinet; primarily aimed at the Jazz market, it plays with a warm and flexible sound. Whilst Benny Goodman endorsed Selmer clarinets, Artie Shaw endorsed wide bore Conn instruments. There are no cracks or damage to the wood, which is in fine condition throughout. The nickel plated keywork is in good condition, with only a natural patina due to age. The pads are very lightly used fish skin, which are all sealing well. The serial no. is 153002, making this a later example. All pieces are matching and original, and the m'piece is a Meyer in good condition. The case is a Conn, which does show some interior lining wear, it still latches well.
