Noblet, by Leblanc, Artist C Clarinet
This is a Noblet Artist C Clarinet, made by Leblanc, in very good condition. This clarinet is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct, and has an impressive provenance: It was bought new by Georgina Dobree, the well known clarinettist and Professor at the Royal Academy of Music, and then subsequently purchased by a leading London professional who is now selling it. This instrument is the professional Artist model 50 Noblet clarinet, with all parts made of finest unstained Grenadilla wood, unlike some of the cheaper models in the Noblet range. The matching serial nos. are 56738. The wood has no cracks or repairs, it is in excellent condition. The bore, in common with all other Leblanc made C clarinets, is 14.50mm. The instrument is compatible with all French bore m'pieces, which means that usually the player can use the same m'piece they play on their Bb.
The clarinet has recently had an overhaul in fish skin pads. The nickel plating shows no wear, the general plating condition is excellent throughout. The case is the original, and has the plate of Bill Lewington who was for many years the Leblanc distributor in London. The case shows wear but is fully functional. The m'piece is a Vandoren 5RV Lyre which has been especially shortened for this C, with an enlarged exit bore. There has also been some after market tuning work, with the diameter of the D/A hole being reduced. The thumb rest has been re-positioned lower and the original screw holes have been left unfilled. In summation: This is a C with a warm tone and excellent intonation, which would match well with the finest French instruments currently available.
