Buffet, R13 A Clarinet
A good condition Buffet R13 A clarinet, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. The last owner of this clarinet was an amateur based in London, and she has taken good care of the instrument. There is no damage to the wood, apart from a minor chip to the upper joint top tenon, which was repaired by John Coppen. I have photographed the area, and examined it in good light, and it appears to be only a cosmetic repair, see photo 13. The nickel silver plated key work shows no wear, but it is "cloudy" and tarnished. The matching serial nos. are 2267488 which dates to 1982, a fine period of manufacture, just prior to the B&H take over of Buffet. The instrument has used tan leather pads, all of which are sealing well, with the register key pad in cork. All tenon and touch corks have are good, there is no joint wobble, and the mechanism is well regulated. Along with the Buffet stamped barrel, 64.5mm, John Coppen also supplied a 61.5mm barrel, without Buffet stamp. The supplied double case is the original Buffet from the 1980s, there is some wear and staining to the interior, but it is in good condition for its age. This instrument plays extremely well; with an excellent scale and very fine intonation, it is a fine example.
