Matched Pair of Selmer 10G Clarinets
An extremely fine matched pair of Selmer 10G clarinets. These instruments are a commission sale for Clarinets Direct, having last been owned by a professional player, Joe Pacewicz of the RSNO. The Selmer 10G was named for Anthony Gigliotti, onetime principal Clarinet of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Gigliotti had become frustrated with certain shortcomings in the R13 design and went to Buffet Crampon with modifications, Buffet weren't impressed, but Selmer were. The result was the 10G: an improved, "Americanised "R13, with warmer sound and better intonation. Hans W Moennig and Ralph Morgan were also major contributors to the design. The Bb, S/N E6398, has wood and silver plate in very good condition. There are no cracks or repairs to the wood. The pads are used fish skin, but only lightly used, and have many months of playing remaining in them. The A, S/N E0996, is in excellent order throughout with no cracks or damage to the wood. The silver plate is very fine. Like the Bb, the pads are only lightly used fish skin. The instruments have been down to our workshop for regulation, and touch and tenon cork replacement as necesaary. The pair date to 1987. 2 barrels are supplied; of 66mm for the Bb and 65mm for the A. 10G barrels were reverse tapered and sleeved in ebonite for especially accurate tuning. The original case is in good condition and the m'piece is a used Selmer C85 120.
