Selmer, L Series, B Flat Clarinet
A good condition Selmer, Paris, enhanced Boehm Bb Clarinet, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. This clarinet has 7 rings, rather than 6, allowing for a fork Eb/Bb in the LH. The "L Series" Selmers were a quantum leap forward in clarinet design, possibly the best instruments of French manufacture available in the early 1930s. Certainly the company enjoyed phenomenal sales success amongst professional players worldwide. The instruments were very well in tune for the day, and still compete with the best modern designs. Note the sleeved adjustable tuning barrel which Selmer supplied with this model, which, when pulled, did not allow a discontinuity in the bore, allowing the tuning across the range to remain stable. The keywork shows little plating loss, it is in excellent condition. The Grenadilla wood is in very good condition with no cracks or repairs, apart from some scuffing to the bell surface. The clarinet has fish skin pads throughout all pads of which some are new and the others are in good used condition. The matching serial numbers are L2065, dating to 1932. The case is the original in poor condition, with the supplying dealers plaque, and the supplied m'piece is a Selmer B* of the period.
