Buffet, C Clarinet
A rare Buffet C clarinet in Cocus wood, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. The last owner is Andy Webster, the well known player and clarinet Professor at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. This example, with matching serial numbers 5294 on all main pieces, was made in 1931, and is in excellent condition for its age. It was used by him in a Haffner Wind Ensemble recording of Strauss' No.2 Eb Sonatina. The original German Silver key work shows a natural patina, but is in excellent condition, as are the tan leather pads. There are no cracks or damage to the wood, minor surface marks only. Interestingly Buffet clarinets from this period did not normally have anchored pillars, however the last pillar has this feature, possibly this is after market work, see photo 9. The clarinet plays extremely well in tune at A=440 Hz with standard Vandoren Bb clarinet m'pieces. The case is a used B&H in fair condition, there are some interior stains and exterior marks.
