Buffet, A Clarinet
A fine condition professional Buffet Crampon clarinet in A, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. The last owner was a professional musician, now singing at Glyndebourne, and as a second study clarinettist this instrument was used throughout his time at the Royal College of Music, and Royal Northern College of Music.
This A has German silver key work throughout which is in good condition.
The clarinet has used fish skin pads, all of which are in fine order, it has had a thorough "check down" in our workshop prior to sale. The wood is in excellent condition, with no cracks or damage, though the LH 3rd finger hole has been sculpted, presumably by a previous owner who found it difficult to cover as the instrument was manufactured. The matching serial numbers are 3435, which dates to 1929, and this instrument was used to pair with a Martel Bb of a similar age. The response and intonation are very fine, and the clarinet plays well with all standard French bore m'pieces. There are 2 supplied barrels, an original of 65mm and another longer barrel of 66.5mm. The supplied Yamaha double case has some exterior scuffs but the interior is very fine. In summation; this vintage Buffet A will pair well with all modern Buffet Bb clarinets and is excellent value for money.
