Plateau B Flat Clarinet
This is a fine French made wooden plateau or "covered hole" Bb clarinet. From the style of key work this Grenadilla wood instrument was probably made in the 1930s. The German Silver key work is in excellent shape with no wear. The wood is in overall good condition, apart from one small tight hairline crack to the receiver tenon of the lower joint. As this does not form the bore this has no effect on the response or playability of the instrument, see photos 5 & 6. The original bell and barrel are in ebonite, which again, was common in the 1930s. The original barrel has been adapted to accept a Piezo microphone pickup, and consequently another wooden barrel is also supplied. The matching serial numbers, which are on both of the main joints are 873C. The only stamp is on the bell and, unfortunately, this is indecipherable. It plays extremely well across the range at A=440Hz with a modern standard French bore m'piece, a Yamaha 6C is included. This fine clarinet has just had a full and complete restoration with Clarinets Direct, including all new pads, the majority of which are fish skin, & it is sold with our full 1 year warranty. It comes in a modern, new, light weight case. This is a chance for someone to purchase a clarinet specifically designed for the younger player, doubler or even the arthritic player who may have difficulty covering the standard open-tone-hole. There are very few quality French made plateau Bb clarinets at this price point
