Leblanc, Paris, Alto Clarinet
This is a Leblanc, Paris, professional model, Grenadilla wood Alto Clarinet. The condition of the Nickel Silver plating is good, about 85%, with the wear mainly on the ring touch pieces. The sleeved, adjustable crook is in good condition, with no dings or dents. The bell has one dent to the base which has not deformed the shape of the low Eb hole, and does not affect the response, there are also a few light scratches. There are two old pinned, glued crack repairs to the upper joint, [see photo ]. We have checked for seal in our workshop, as this instrument is a commission sale, and all is well with the repair. In addition the mechanism was regulated & a tenon cork replaced. The matching serial numbers are 7630. The tan leather pads are in excellent condition throughout. This instrument has been professionally used for ensemble work. The mouthpiece is a Vandoren B44 in excellent condition, as is the case. In summation; the response & tuning are excellent, but this instrument would only suit a purchaser not worried by its overall cosmetic condition. NB The Alto has had a floor peg holder fitted by the last owner. She used the same spike that came with her Bass clarinet, and has retained the spike for use with that, therefore there is no spike supplied with the Alto. However there is a sling hook, and for the majority of players this proves the easiest way to play an Alto.
