Boosey & Hawkes 1010 , London & Paris, B Flat Clarinet
A rare, superb condition, Boosey & Hawkes, London & Paris, pre-war 1010 clarinet which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. This instrument has been in the same family from new, and has been cared for exceptionally well. The London & Paris 1010 model, as the name suggests, was made for B&H in France. The clarinets have two matching serial numbers; one stamped by the manufacturer, and the other by Boosey & Hawkes. The Bb has serial nos. 2042/1259. The instrument is in wood, which is in overall excellent condition, apart from the bell & barrel which are in ebonite. All pieces are matching and serial numbered including the m'piece. This is very rare, and no less an authority than Jack Brymer, who amously recorded the Mozart Concerto under Sir Thomas Beecham with his L&P A, insisted that the optimum intonation would be achieved by having the original m'piece. The reason for this is that, at the B&H factory Brian Manton-Myatt, the chief designer for B&H personally tuned the clarinet with the supplied serial numbered mouthpiece. This does result in a clarinet with exemplary intonation which puts many contemporary clarinets to shame. The key work is original German Silver in superb condition. The instrument has used tan leather pads throughout in very good condition. It has been through our workshop for a partial overhaul, with pads, and corks replaced as necessary. The original case is worn, but functional. The clarinet is a delight to play: Free and easy in response with a "classic" warm English tone, associated with the likes of Gervase de Peyer and Jack Brymer.
