King, Marigaux Bass Clarinet
This is a good condition King Marigaux, Paris, Bass clarinet, to low Eb, in Grenadilla wood, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. King, were, I believe, the agents for SML. Strasser, Marigaux, and Lemaire were makers specialising in professional, saxophones, oboes and clarinets. Today, as Marigaux, they survive as one of the World's finest oboe manufacturers.
All the Nickel Silver plate key work is in fair condition, with some wear to the ring finger touch pieces. The wood overall is in fine condition, with no damage or repairs. Likewise the crook and bell, which show no dents or dings, this Bass has been well cared for, with the last owner a professional Jazz player. The instrument has recently been partially re-padded in white leather; the pads are a mixture of fish skin and leather. The instrument is a professional model, featuring compensating low G/D vent, like a top of the range Bass clarinet, articulated C/G#, and LH Ab/Eb lever. The serial numbers are 252, from the style of key work, it is likely this Bass dates to the 1960s. The case is in good condition, as is the m'piece, which is a Selmer C85 120.
