Jean Martin, B Flat Clarinet
A Jean Martin, De-Luxe, Bb clarinet which was probably a stencil made for the American market. The instrument is stamped "Made by Martin Freres", and "Made in France". Though undoubtedly of French manufacture, Martin Freres & Famille, had actually ceased manufacture by 1927. Thereafter it appears that the Martin Freres name passed to an American importer: Jean Martin was one of several instrument brands marketed in the USA in the 1950s, and this clarinet appears to date from then. The instrument is in good condition, with no cracks or damage to the wood. There is some plating loss to the nickel plate on the upper keys of the upper joint. Overall the plating is about 90%. The matching serial numbers are B1802. The m'piece is a Woodwind Co. "Educator" in fair condition, as is the original case, which shoes interior and exterior wear.
