Boosey & Hawkes Imperial E Flat Clarinet
This is a Boosey and Hawkes Imperial, Eb Clarinet in ebonite, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct This Eb was formerly owned by Keith Puddy, former principal Clarinet of the Halle Orchestra, and then sold to a pupil of his at Trinity School of Music. Subsequently it has been used professionally both here in the UK and in Europe.
The Nickel Silver plated key work shows much wear, with many keys worn through to the base metal. There are no cracks or repairs to the body, which is in good condition. The instrument has used fish skin pads throughout, which are sealing well. The instrument has been down to our workshop for a thorough "check down" with touch and tenon corks replaced as necessary. The serial nos. may be 347556, which dates to the 1970's, they are very hard to photograph and read. The mouthpiece is a B&H original. It plays comfortably with Vandoren No. 3 or 3.5 reeds. In summation this Eb plays with a mellow, broad sound, and with excellent intonation. It would suit a player looking for a bargain priced top quality Eb who is not bothered by the cosmetic appearance.
