The new Legacy, which plays with standard French bore m'pieces, and the Symphony Legacy, which plays with wide bore m'pieces. These instruments are a substantial leap forward in acoustic and key work design, both aspects of which are new to the Legacy "UK" stamp series. What makes these clarinets stand out so much from their forerunners and competition?
In the past many wide bore designs were often simply copies, or adaptations of, B&H designs, featuring the exact same keys and manufacturing machinery, which was of course much used, and of old design. The Rossi English bore designs however were different, and the new Rossi Legacy range has evolved, with more modern concepts of tuning, and the latest in user friendly and ergonomic key work. Both designs feature Luis Rossi's latest automatic AF [ Automatic low F] correction mechanism, which works, completely free of additional springing, off the register key. The low vent pad opens for low F and closes for C a 12th above. Unlike the clumsy solutions offered by other manufacturers, there are no additions to the standard Boehm system keywork, All the work is done for the player, who is completely oblivious of the additional mechanism and fingers as normal.
Each clarinet is handmade: Hand built in Chile and hand finished here in the UK. Because Luis Rossi clarinets hark back to an era of player makers, the quality of the product is assured. Each clarinet undergoes rigorous undercutting and tuning work which takes place over several days, this makes the scale and intonation a class apart from other clarinets. This new UK/Chile production process allows the customer to purchase a bespoke handmade clarinet at the same price point as a mass produced product from a mainstream manufacturer.
The Legacy clarinets come in 2 models: The Symphony Legacy of 15.2mm bore which uses an parallel bore m'piece of similar type to a B&H 1010. The Legacy of 15.0mm bore which uses a standard French bore m'piece. Rossi supply brand new m'pieces of both designs. The Legacy has additional adjusting screws, unique to the Rossi design, to make maintenance of essential regulation easier to achieve. The clarinets are in a single piece allowing the correct placement of the C#/G# hole. They feature a 6 ring 17 key design in thick quality silver plate, padded with finest silicone pads for the closed pads, and teflon for the open pads.. All instruments are sold with a 1 year warranty which includes a free check up, within the year. The clarinets are in finest aged, hand selected African Blackwood, and come in a case, with 3 different length barrels, key and accessories.
