Howarth, S1, B Flat Clarinet
An excellent condition Howarth S1 Bb clarinet, in Grenadilla wood. The S1 was Howarths' original professional clarinet with a bore of 14.85mm, designed by Jon Steward, and was greeted with much enthusiasm by many professional UK players, including Tony Pay. Jon was a superb designer and craftsman, and much of the design ethos exhibited in the S1 owed itself to Jon's admiration for the great designs of the 1930's notably Jacques Albert Fils clarinets, and a love of a darker sound leaning towards the German tradition of warm tone . Subsequent designs were of smaller bore, and unfortunately Howarth no longer manufacture clarinets. The wood is in superb condition, with no cracks or damage. Like wise the Silver plating throughout is excellent. The instrument has just had a complete fish skin pad overhaul in our workshop and is sold with 1 year warranty. The Bb has matching serial nos. 1038. The supplied m'piece is a used Selmer HS**. The tuning is excellent with this and also standard French bore m'pieces. The Ortola case is used, but in good condition.
