Selmer, Paris, B Flat Clarinet
A rare and fine early modern logo Selmer Bb clarinet, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. This instrument has matching serial numbers K5570, but the fact that it is stamped with the modern logo probably dates it to 1930. The clarinet has been owned by a London based professional who has had much careful after market work done. John Coppen has added anchors to the posts on the lower joint, as well as modifying the RH sliver key. This work was undertaken at no small expense, and was designed to enable this fine vintage clarinet to be used by a busy professional. The The Grenadilla wood has no cracks or damage, in fact the condition is very good, with only light surface marks. The German silver key work is in good condition throughout, without tarnish or blemish. This clarinet has a bore of 14.9mm, and was a transitional model, made just before the introduction of the "L" series and Radio Improved clarinets. The instrument has a mixture of pads, with most on the upper joint being fish skin, the lowest pads were fitted by John Coppen, and are his "super pads". The register key pad is in cork, and all pads are in good used condition. The Selmer case is in fair used condition, and dates to the 1960s. The m'piece is an excellent condition Selmer "D".
