The Martin C Melody Saxophone
A rare "The Martin" C Melody Saxophone, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. This instrument was formerly owned by a London based professional, who is selling two of his C Melody saxes, and retaining another two. Selling this particular instrument has been a hard decision for him, as this C Melody is an outstanding example; even and well in tune. The craze for C Melody saxes which swept the world in the early years of the last Century caused a large number of non specialist sax makers to offer C Melody's: And many were of dubious quality. This cannot be said of the well established specialist large firms, i.e. Selmer, Martin and Buescher, and they all offered very fine examples. This example has good condition leather pads throughout. The silver body is in very good shape for an instrument which is approximately 100 years old. The serial numbers are 31469, which dates to 1922. The supplied m'piece is a modern Michael White Alto example on a Babbitt blank, which plays the instrument well. The case latches, but the handle has failed.
