Buffet, Vintage, R13 A Clarinet
A fine condition vintage Buffet R13 A clarinet, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. The Silver plated key work is excellent throughout, and it is likely that the plating was done at a later date to the date of manufacture, because Buffet did not plate their clarinets until the mid 1960s. We have just entirely re-padded in Pisoni Premium Deluxe fish skin pads. The clarinet is sold with our full year's Clarinets Direct warranty. There are two, old pinned surface cracks to the upper joint, but, even with the instrument being completely stripped down in our workshop it was not possible to find these cracks, they do not go through into the bore, the only evidence off the repairs are signs of the pins, see photos 5, 13, 14, & 15. There is also an un-repaired crack to the upper tenon of the lower joint, see photo 4, again as this does not form the interior bore of the clarinet, the crack has no effect whatsoever on the response. The matching serial nos. are F54995 which dates to 1955. Back then this was the finest professional instrument Buffet made, with unstained, matched wood. This was before the introduction of the ""Prestige" range, which effectively downgraded the standard R13 considerably. These days R13's are made from inferior quality wood which is stained to hide imperfections. Buffet are currently attempting to recreate this Gold standard of manufacture in their current "Vintage R13" range please go to www.buffetcrampon.com more details. An excellent condition double case is supplied with keys.
