Leblanc, Paris, Bass Clarinet
This is a very fine playing Leblanc Bass Clarinet in Grenadilla wood, model 400, to low Eb. This instrument sits above the Noblet Bass in the Leblanc line up, and was described by them as an entry level professional model. All the German Silver key work is in excellent condition, though there is a surface patina, natural to an instrument which has matching serial numbers 2562, which probably dates to the early 1960s. The wood is in good condition for a Bass of this age, with just one repaired, pinned, crack at the top of the upper joint running from the start of the metal receiver tenon, see pictures. The repair is very thorough, with both the crack being pinned and sealed, and the wood glued at the top of the upper joint. The instrument is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct and this Bass has been regularly played for the last 9 years with no issues. The rest of the wood surface shows minor surface scratches and marks only, including some old screw holes which have been filled {please select photos and hover your mouse to see in "close up"}. The bell and crook are both in good used condition with no major dents, there are only slight surface dings to the bell, and light scratches. The Bass has tan leather pads throughout, which are all in excellent condition, the instrument has been very well maintained. There is a floor peg and also a sling hook. The case is a Pro-Tech in good condition, which comes with carry straps. The m'piece is a used ebonite J&D Hite, which does tune this Bass admirably. In summation this is a very fine responding professional model Bass with an excellent tone, but it does have some cosmetic imperfections. A comparable new Bass today would cost in excess of £5000.
