Selmer, Paris, 9 Star, B Flat Clarinet
This Selmer Series 9* Bb clarinet is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. The last owner being the well known British Jazz player, Adrian Cox. The 9* was marketed by Selmer as "pour la musique symphonique", the 9 was "pour le jazz et les varietes." In other words the slightly smaller bore Series 9*, with undercutting, was aimed at the classical market, the wide bore Series 9 at the Jazz market. The clarinet has matching serial nos., T3690 which dates to 1963. The Nickel Silver plating is excellent throughout, with no wear. The pads are all used tan leather, which are in fine order, and will be good for many months to come. There is one old pinned crack repair to the upper joint, just above the speaker key tube, see photo 7. It is a surface crack only and does not run into a tone hole, so it has no affect whatsoever on the response. There also a couple of slight chips to the bottom of the lowest joint, see the last photo, again these have no affect on the response. The supplied Selmer case is in fair condition, there are some tears to the interior lining but the catches are sturdy.
