Malerne, Paris, Bass Clarinet
This is a good condition R Malerne, Paris, Bass Clarinet in Grenadilla wood to low Eb, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. Malerne was active in Paris from the 1930's through to the 1950's, though a respected French maker his instruments are not top professional models, but rather more accurately described as intermediate clarinets.
Overall the wood is in very good condition, with only one crack to the receiving tenon of the lower joint, which we have re-sealed and filled in our workshop, see photo 4. The Nickel Silver key work is in superb condition throughout, with no wear, it is in fine regulation. There are sling hook holders on both joints, and a sling is provided The instrument has tan leather pads throughout, which whilst not new are in good condition. There is a new floor peg assembly to the bell and an exceptionally long spike is supplied. The crook and the bell are both in very good condition with only very slight flattening to the bottom of the bell [see photo 9]. The matching serial nos. are 736. The case is a modern example for a low C Bass, it is in good condition apart from one area of the interior which has some black tape repairs. The original Malerne ebonite m'piece is included, as well as a Yamaha 4C in very good condition. In summation, this Bass plays with a warm even tone, and would suit a player looking for a value for money wooden instrument.
