Pair of Yamaha CX-E Clarinets
A very good condition pair of Yamaha CX-E CUSTOM clarinets, which are a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. The CX-E, [ E for Extra?] features a LH Ab/Eb lever i.e. 18 keys and 6 rings. This pair have been owned and played by a UK based professional player. The CX Custom was launched in the 1980s as a direct competitor to the Buffet R13. Like the Buffet R13 it features a poly-cylindrical bore of 14.65mm, however unlike the R13 it also features tapered tone holes, with each tone hole being individually hand-tapered and undercut for optimum tone quality, intonation, and uniform response throughout the instrument's range.
The Bb has no cracks or damage to the wood, which is pristine finest aged, unstained, Grenadilla. It has matching S/N 003401. The pads are white leather in good used condition. The Silver plated key work is very good throughout, with no discernible wear.
The A, like the Bb has no cracks or damage to the wood. It has matching S/N 04160. The pads are fish skin in good used condition. The thumb rest has been re-positioned lightly higher, and one of the screw holes has been filled. The Silver plated key work is excellent throughout. Both clarinets are also supplied with alternative keys, so that, should the new owner wish, they can be converted back to standard 17 key, 6 ring Boehm system. The case is the original Yamaha in very good condition. These instruments represents superb value for money: For less than the cost of an pair of new Buffet E13s, one can purchase instruments more consistent than most modern R13s.
