Amati Bass Clarinet to low C
A rare Amati Bass Clarinet to low C, this model was the precursor of the professional model Amati ACL 692, which was sold at a price of £7240 in the UK, as a Buffet Prestige Bass clarinet alternative. The instrument owes much to the F A Uebel Bass in terms of design: The fully automatic over blowing vent is similar in layout to that on an Uebel Bass clarinet, but, like other mainstream French Bass low C designs the upper event is actuated for notes above E natural in the second register. Again, like Uebel, the fingering of the lower pitches is with rear buttons for the thumb. Unlike Uebel, however, there are 4 rather than 3, this allows for Eb, D, Db, and C as your thumb moves clockwise through the buttons. The system is remarkably efficient and easy to use. The clarinet is a commission sale for us having come from a UK professional, who sadly, because of finger arthritis can no longer play the Bass
The Grenadilla wood is in excellent condition throughout, with no cracks or damage. Like wise the Nickel Silver plating is pristine. The pads are used but all sealing well. The matching serial numbers are 6428. The instrument has an articulated C#/G# mechanism and is similar in many respects to the Mark 1 type 33 Selmer Bass to low C, but at a fraction of the price. Like the Selmer, it is a wide bore model. The original case is in very good condition, and the m'piece is a Vandoren B40 in excellent used condition. In addition to the floor peg attachment a sling is provided. This Bass would be an ideal purchase for a player looking for a bargain priced low C Bass in wood.
