Buffet, C Clarinet
This is an early Buffet C clarinet, in Grenadilla wood, which is most likely a "stencil" i.e. a Buffet fake from the 1920s. Back then this was quite a common practice, and if one looks at the logo carefully it is very different from a genuine Buffet logo, which would be stamped Buffet Crampon and be in a cartouche. In addition the lack of a serial number, and "Made in France" stamp supports the case that this is not a genuine Buffet. This clarinet was professionally owned and played, and for a wooden C, likely dating to the 1920s, it plays well. The style of keywork suggests this date as does the Cocus wood bell. The German Silver keywork is in good condition. The wood is in good condition overhaul, apart from one tiny chip to the lowest tenon, see the last photo. All pieces are matching and original. The instrument has had partial overhaul in our workshop with approximately half the pads replaced. This C is an ideal purchase for the player who wants to use the same mouthpiece that they currently use on their Bb instrument, as the instrument tunes well with all standard French bore Bb m'pieces. The original case has interior lining tears and some stains, and the m'piece is a used Vandoren B44.
