Selmer, Paris, Bass Clarinet in A
A pristine condition Selmer, Paris, Bass Clarinet to low Eb in the key of A. This Bass clarinet in A is extremely rare, we have only ever seen one other example, which was extended to low C# by Ted Planas. There is, however, one other owned professionally here in the UK. It appears that a very few of these Bass clarinets were manufactured in the 1980s by Selmer, possibly as custom orders. This instrument was last owned by Nicholas Bucknall, the well known clarinettist and recording artist. The silver plating is in very good condition throughout with no wear. The wood is also in excellent condition with no cracks or damage. This example has matching serial nos. D3303, dating to the mid-1980s, it therefore features all modern options: A double overblowing vent, a compensating low G/D vent, articulated C#/G# and LH Ab/Eb. This model was known in the UK as the Mark II, or second generation type 33. The pads are a mixture of older and newer tan leather, with the larger pads having reflectors, all are in good condition. This instrument was carefully & regularly maintained, as it was the default choice for all work. It has just gone through our workshop for a service prior to sale. The m'piece is a Selmer C*, which has a medium open, and medium long lay. The case is the original in excellent used condition, & comes with the keys. This Bass plays exceptionally well, and is an outstanding example, it would suit a collector or a specialist professional looking for a very fine low Eb Bass.
