Boosey & Hawkes Imperial E Flat Clarinet
This is a good condition Boosey and Hawkes Imperial, Eb Clarinet in Grenadilla wood, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct and has an impressive provenance. The last owner being Michael Pearce who used this clarinet throughout his time as co-Principal Eb clarinet of the Philharmonia. This instrument is a veteran of numerous recordings and performances, and is an outstanding example with a fine tone and intonation. The Silver plated key work shows only slight wear, mainly to the rings fingers key, it is in nice condition throughout. There are no cracks or repairs to the wood, which is in good condition, though the bottom tenon has some minor chips to the tenon ring, see photo 10. We are currently in the process of re-fitting a missing bottom tenon ring to restore this tenon to the condition it was in when it left the B&H factory. The instrument has brand new fish skin leather pads throughout having just been completely overhauled in our workshop and is sold with our 1 year warranty. The serial nos. are 49103, which dates to the late 1940's. The mouthpiece is a B&H original, which is in good condition, and it plays comfortably with Vandoren No. 3 or 3.5 reeds. In summation this Eb plays with a mellow, broad sound, and with exemplary intonation.
