Selmer, Paris, Full Boehm, B Flat Clarinet
This is a very interesting early modern logo Selmer professional Full Boehm Bb clarinet, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. It features all teh "bells and whistles": fork Eb/Bb, LH Ab/Eb, articulated C#/G# & low Eb key. In some ways the clarinet is a transitional model. The logo is of the modern Selmer type, but a larger design, yet this clarinet has matching serial numbers K6190 [though extremely hard to decipher] and a "Brevete SGDG" stamp also. All of this point to a 1930's instrument just prior to the introduction of Selmer's Radio Improved clarinet, the first of the great modern clarinet designs.
This clarinet has been well used: There are 2 cracks to the barrel which do go through to the bore, and these cracks have been filled and sealed. There is also a crack to the upper part of the lower joint. The bottom tenon also has a very minor chip, see photo 8. The pads are fish skin, in good condition and they are all sealing well. The German Silver keywork is in good condition, though the bottom E/B key has been cut through and shortened, presumably to stop a previous owner inadvertently catching the Eb/Bb key, see photo 10. The case has been relined, it is worn, but latches well.
