Selmer, Paris, Pair of Vintage Clarinets
A rare and fine pair of original logo H Selmer Paris clarinets, probably dating to the mid-1920s. These instruments are a commission sale for Clarinets Direct, having most recently been used by a professional player in London well known for period instrument performance.
The Bb has matching serial numbers 9015. There are no cracks or damage, but there is a metal reinforcing band to the top of the upper joint. The wood throughout shows light surface marks & surface scuffs. The German silver keywork is in good condition throughout. The system is Boehm, but with a fork Eb/Bb, i.e. 17 keys and 7 rings. The clarinets are stamped " Brevette SGDG" which is on both top joints, all pieces are matching and original. The clarinets have a bore of 14.9mm. The A, has matching serial numbers 4821, and again is an enhanced Boehm system with articulated C sharp/G sharp key. There is no damage to the wood, which is crack and repair free. The German Silver key work is very good throughout. All pads are Pisoni Deluxe Tan Leather in good condition. The case is a more modern Selmer Pouchette leather example in good used condition. These instruments play with a warm tone and fine intonation; it is easy to understand why Selmer clarinets became so popular worldwide at this time. NB The pictured m'piece is no longer for sale with this pair.
