Matched pair of Buffet RC Clarinets
An extremely fine pair of Buffet RC clarinets in silver plate. These instruments are a one professional owner pair, having formerly belonged to the late Graham Mackie. They were bought new, after having being selected from many examples. and extensively used in London in many of the finest professional orchestras.
The Bb has matching S/N 204476, the A has matching S/N 188168, both date to the late 1970s, this is generally acknowledged as the best production period for the RC, and it was Buffet's most costly clarinet at that time, as this period pre-dated the introduction of the Prestige model. The Buffet RC model was launched in 1975, and named after Robert Carree, who had had a long career with Buffet Crampon, which culminated in him being chief designer. The RC places the speaker tube higher, and features a slighter wider initial polycylindrical bore than the R13. Most players find this results in a warmer, more "spread" tone, than the R13. The wood is in overall very good condition. The silver plate is in superb condition. the pair have used leather pads in good condition, and have been through our workshop for a thorough "check down" and regulation. They come with 4 barrels, all original RC barrels: 2 for the A, of 64.5 and 65mm and 2 for the Bb of 67.5 and 66mm. The supplied mouthpiece is an upgrade to a professional model Selmer HS*, and the case is an Orly in good used condition. In summation these are a superb pair of RCs with excellent intonation and response, which would well suit a professional player or dedicated amateur.
