Selmer, Mazzeo System, B Flat Clarinet
Clarinets Direct is pleased to be able to offer another extremely rare clarinet for sale.
This instrument is a Mazzeo system 9* Bb clarinet. For those unfamiliar with the Mazzeo system the mechanism facilitates the production of a good throat Bb by using additional key work to open the third trill key in conjunction with throat A. Thus an excellent throat Bb can be produced by touching any of the rings from LH 2 down, with the throat A key. This system can be disconnected at will by sliding down a cylinder placed on top of the third trill key.
The Bb has matching serial nos. throughout of S3623, which dates to 1960. This seems to be a feature of "top of the range" Selmer Mazzeo's in our experience, in that the serial nos. are stamped on all the pieces of the clarinet. All wood is in pristine condition, as is the Nickel Silver key work. The instrument has just had a partial service in our workshop with pads and corks replaced as necessary. This clarinet also comes with an original Selmer HS* m'piece, which is stamped within an oval on the table. The clarinet demonstrates exemplary intonation and response, and though it will appeal to a collector, [as the condition is excellent for a 62 year old clarinet] it is also a superb clarinet which deserves regular use.
