Selmer, Contra-Alto Clarinet, to low D, Bucknall Collection
This is a very fine condition, and extremely rare, Selmer Contra-Alto clarinet in Rosewood, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. This instrument was ordered from Selmer, Paris, as a low D model, instead of the more common version with a range to low Eb, and used professionally by Nicholas Bucknall. This Contra is a veteran of many film sessions. The instrument has matching serial nos. on both joints, A2940, which dates to 1979. The Selmer Contra-Alto is generally considered the finest in the world, due to its excellent response and fine ergonomics. It plays almost as easily as a Bass clarinet.
This instrument is without cracks or damage to the wood. The rear touchpice for low D, has been modified, lengthened and moved to a better position fo the RH, thumb see photo 3. In addition the marching band lyre has been removed and the screw holes left unfilled, see photo 13. The tightening screw for the floor peg has also been changed to give more purchase. This EEb has fine condition Pisoni tan leather pads throughout, all are sealing well. The Nickel Silver plating is also excellent with no wear. There are 2 supplied m'pieces an original Selmer, and A Clarke Fobes Nova, both are in excellent condition. The original case shows some exterior scuffs, and minor wear to the interior.
