Leblanc, Paris, Bass Clarinet
This is a fine condition Leblanc Bass Clarinet in Grenadilla wood, model 400, to low Eb, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. This instrument sits above the Noblet Bass in the Leblanc line up, and was described by them as an entry level professional model. All the German Silver key work is in excellent condition. The wood is in good condition for a Bass of this age, with no cracks, though there are numerous surface marks and scratches. The main defects are a selection of screw holes, which have mostly been filled: These are to be found at the bottom of the lower joint, where an older floor peg unit was attached, and also in 2 areas where brackets where attached to keep the Bass together as a one piece instrument [see photos 11, 12, & 13]. The bell and crook are both in good used condition with no major dents, there are only slight surface dings to the bell, and light scratches. The Bass has recently full tan leather re-pad and all the pads are in excellent condition. There is a floor peg to the bell, the matching serial nos. are 3270, which probably dates to the early 1960's [ on line Leblanc serial number lists are unreliable]. The case is an upgrade to a modern Yamaha which is in good used condition. The m'piece is an "as new" Fobes Debut which plays this Bass very well.
