Pair of Marigaux RS Symphonie Clarinets
An extremely rare pair of RS Symphonie Marigaux clarinets, which are a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. These are an extremely fine top of the range professional pair, made with the assistance of Roland Simoncini, who was Principal Clarinet of the Orchestre National de France. These were likely made in the late 1990s or early 2000s and should not be confused with earlier clarinets made by SML, they are vastly superior. Features include: Excellent ergonomic keywork, with many sculpted keys, an off set register key, rollers for the RH, adjusting screws for all the lower pads to avoid regulation problems, a unique and excellent design of adjustable thumb rest, redesigned bore, tone holes and bell.
The Bb, S/N 10133, has a small bore at 14.65mm which is parrallel through the upper joint. There is less bore flair than a contemporary Buffet. The wood is superb quality with a dense grain. the pads are all used fish skin in good condition. This clarinet has a LH Ab/Eb lever, and comes with 3 barrels.
The A, S/N 00017, features a large reverse cone to the upper joint arrowing to 14.7mm. Like the Bb this clarinet has excellent condition used fish skin pads, and finest Grenadilla wood in pristine condition. The bore design of the bell is unusually small. Both clarinets play with a focussed "woody" tone, quite unlike Buffet clarinets. This pair would definitely suit a player looking for a darker tone. The intonation and tonal evenness of these clarinets is quite exceptional, surpassing many instruments on the market today. What a pity these are no longer manufactured. The pair come with a new Selmer HS m'piece and in a good condition Orsi double case.
