Matched Pair of Buffet Tradition Clarinets
A fine condition matched pair of Buffet Tradition Clarinets, which are a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. The Tradition is a re-working of the BC20, which was Buffet's orchestral and recital clarinet, initially launched in the 1960s. Their owner from new was Thomas Watmough, of the LPO, who selected them from many examples. The top joint of the Bb surface cracked in the area of the first trill key pad, and was pinned a few months after purchase, Tom choosing not to have a replacement joint from Buffet, and this repair has been stable through several years of hard use. The crack doe not go through to the bore. This use is also reflected in the condition of the silver plating, which does show some wear. In addition to the Bb top joint, one of the Bb barrels has also cracked and been repaired [see photos 2-5].
The pads are used white leather in good condition. The Bb has matching serial numbers 704095, and the A, 696887. The A shows some design difference to the Bb, with a raised tone hole chimney for C#/G# and a speaker tube which is seated higher, partially out of the bore. There are 2 barrels for both Bb and A, and the pair come in an excellent condition BAM case.
