Selmer, Paris, Contra-Alto Clarinet to low D
This is a very fine condition, and extremely rare, Selmer Contra-Alto clarinet in Rosewood, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. This instrument was ordered from Selmer, Paris, as a low D model, instead of the more common version with a range to low Eb. This instrument has matching serial nos. on both joints, X7001, which dates to 1973. The last owner of this Contra was a Jazz player who fitted a bracket to the lower joint to stop the sliver B/F# key from opening. We have removed this, but a small surface hole which was part of this fitting remains, see photo 2. There is also a tiny pin head ding to the bell, see photo 5, but these blemishes aside, the condition is very good. The Selmer Contra-Alto is generally considered the finest in the world, due to its excellent response and fine ergonomics. It plays almost as easily as a Bass clarinet.
This instrument is without cracks or damage to the wood. This EEb has just had a complete overhaul in Pisoni tan leather pads, in our workshop, and is sold with our full 1 year warranty. The Nickel Silver plating is also excellent throughout, with no wear. The supplied m'piece is a Selmer, which is again in very good condition. A selection of reeds are also included. The original floor peg has been replaced by an example with cello ball and a sling is also supplied. The original case shows some exterior scuffs, and minor wear to the interior.
