Pair of Selmer Piccolo Clarinets
These are a rare and unique pair of enhanced Selmer Full Boehm Piccolo Clarinets.
The D was commissioned from Patrick Selmer by Edward [Ted] Planas, who was the Selmer agent for many years in London to twin with an earlier Eb. The last owner of teh pair was a London based professional now retired from Eb clarinet playing. The Eb has matching serial numbers P6804. These serial numbers are present on the bell, and several of the supplied 8 barrels. This makes the date of manufacture 1954, and this clarinet has the type of speaker key tube associated with the Pre-Centered Tone model. The key work is unplated German Silver, in excellent condition, as are the lightly used tan leather pads. There are no cracks or damage. Like the D, Ted Planas added a throat A touchpiece, which is usually associate with Couesnon Perier Monople clarinet. [Ted was a great endorser of Couesnon clarinets]. This touchpiece facilitates throat G#-A and Ab-Bb trills.
The D is later with matching serial numbers S9199 dating to 1962, and it is the only Full Boehm D Selmer ever made. The speaker key tube is contemporary with the Selmer Series 9 model. The nickel plated keywork is pristine, and we have just entirely re-padded the clarinet in fish skin pads. Again the wood condition is excellent. These clarinets are a technical Tour de Force featuring all the Full Boehm mechanism. Again several of the 8 barrels, which are stamped D, have matching serial numbers. One barrel we have shortened to 44mm. The barrels vary in length from 44mm up to 49mm. The supplied m'piece is a Selmer C85 115 in good used condition. The pair come in a beautiful, but heavy, custom made Tulip wood case with key. The intonation and response of ths pair, are a testament to the highest manufacturing standards of Selmer.
