Pair of Selmer Paris Series 9 Clarinets
A good condition pair of Selmer Series 9 Clarinets, which are a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. The 9* was marketed by Selmer as "pour la musique symphonique", the 9 was "pour le jazz et les varietes." The matching serial numbers on the Bb are X6865, dating to 1973, which makes this example one of the last made. The Nickel Silver keywork is in good condition with only slight plating loss, mainly to the throat G# key. The Grenadilla wood is in good condition for an instrument of this vintage, apart from one surface crack to the top of the upper joint which fortunately runs into the speaker tube, and no further. As this does not go through to the bore and the speaker tube is metal lined, this has no effect on the response. The clarinet has used tan leather pads which are sealing well. The Series 9 measures 15.25mm at the top of the reverse cone of the upper joint, making it the largest bore Selmer clarinet made. The A has matching serial numbers are V9813, dating to 1969. The Nickel Silver keywork is in excellent condition with no plating loss. The Grenadilla wood is in good condition for an instrument of this vintage, with no cracks or repairs. The instrument has used fish skin pads which are sealing well. The m'piece is a used Portnoy BPO2, and there are 4 different length interchangeable barrels of 58.0mm, 64.5mm 66.0mm and 66.5mm. The case is the original in fair condition, with some interior stains and exterior scuffs.
