Matched Pair of Uebel Superior II Clarinets
A fine condition pair of Uebel Superior II clarinets, which are a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. The sole & original owner is a top UK professional, who has had a long and successful career as Principal Clarinet of many UK orchestras. He commissioned a custom RH thumb key for the A clarinet correcting the inherent flatness of low E & F from the manufacturer F A Uebel. He also ordered no fewer than 3 additional bells of varying lengths and internal bore flairs to aid with the evenness across the break to the upper register.
The Bb has matching serial numbers B-185565. The pads are mainly the original white leather with a couple of replacement tan leather pads, all are in excellent condition. The wood and silver plating are pristine. The A has had a replacement top joint, which has itself then cracked and was repaired with carbon fibre banding by Howarths; please see photo 5. The crack does not enter the bore or a tone hole, and has proved completely stable with heavy professional use for several years. The serial numbers are therefore lower joint A-186597, upper joint, A-SA02006. Like the Bb the pads are in excellent condition as is the silver plating. There are no fewer than 5 interchangeable barrels of varying lengths and bore design from 64-67mm. The supplied m'piece is a Rico XE-125 in "as new" condition as is the case. This pair exhibit fine build quality with carbon fibre tenon rings, and bells with a vent to improve the pitch and tone of the bell notes. With the custom modification to the A which was engineered by Uebel, they are probably one of the finest Superior II pairs available, and are offered at a massive discount on the new list price of £13,000.
