An excellent "UK" stamp Buffet R13 A clarinet in fine condition. The last owner is a top UK professional, who has had a long and successful career as Principal Clarinet of many UK orchestras, and this clarinet is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. When Alan Lucas became managing director of Buffet UK Ltd he made strenuous efforts to offer outstanding value, well manufactured clarinets to the UK market. At the forefront of this were the famous "UK" stamp model Buffet R13 and E13 clarinets which set a new bench mark of affordable quality in the UK, which ultimately resulted in Boosey & Hawkes acquisition of Buffet.
This A matching serial numbers, 166117, dating to 1976, has nickel plate throughout in very good condition. The pads, which are tan leather are also in fine condition. There are no cracks or damage to the Grenadilla wood, the regulation is excellent and there is no joint wobble. The original thumb rest has been replaced with a modern adjustable example with sling hook attachment and the original screw holes have been left unfilled. The barrel is an up-grade to a Buffet Festival A barrel of 65mm, and the intonation and response of this A are outstanding, equal or superior to any Buffet A currently on sale. The supplied Paxman case is also in good condition & comes with a case cover. This clarinet would suit a professional looking for an outstanding R13 A of this period.
