Selmer, Console, Plateau B Flat Clarinet
A rare Selmer Console plateau Bb clarinet in ebonite. It is likely from the style of keywork and case that this instrument dates to the 1930s. At this time ebonite was in vogue and Selmer considered ebonite a superior material to wood; their 1920s brochure charged most for a metal clarinet, followed by ebonite, and lastly Grenadilla wood. The German Silver keywork shows a heavy patina commensurate with a clarinet which is likely 90 years old. All pieces are matching and stamped "Console", and there is no damage to the ebonite. We have just completely re-padded this fine playing clarinet with fish skin pads, and it is sold with our full 1 year warranty. If desired, we can supply a new compact case with this instrument FOC. The tuning and response are excellent with the supplied m'piece, but this instrument can be played with any modern French bore m'piece.
